Beijing: A Chinese official accused “anti-China forces” in the West of using Christianity to subvert the country’s political power and said worshippers must follow a Chinese form of religion. China’s officially atheist government, which oversees religious groups through state-sponsored institutions, has tightened its grip on all faiths in recent years. “Anti-China forces in the West are attempting to continue to influence the social stability of our country through Christianity, and even subvert the political power of our country,” Xu Xiaohong, chairman of the state-backed National Three-Self Patriotic Movement Committee, which oversees the Protestant churches, said on Monday. Also Read – Imran Khan arrives in China, to meet Prez Xi JinpingSpeaking at the annual gathering of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a largely ceremonial advisory body, Xu described the introduction of Christianity in China as “accompanying the intense colonial aggression by the West”. Only by incorporating Chinese culture into Christianity would the religion become something Chinese people could identify with, said Xu. For those who “subvert national security in the name of Christianity, we support the country in bringing them to justice,” he added. In China, Protestants are split between unofficial and state-sanctioned churches, where Communist Party songs also feature in the order of service. Over the past year, unofficial “house” or “underground” churches have faced increasing pressure, with some church members detained under subversion charges. In December, the pastor of the Early Rain Covenant Church, a prominent unofficial Protestant congregation in southwest Sichuan province, was detained in a police raid under charges of “inciting subversion of state power,” according to the church. In September, Beijing officials also shut down Zion Church, one of China’s largest unofficial Protestant churches, for operating without a licence in the capital – before ordering it to pay back 1.2 million yuan (USD 170,000) in rent and removal costs. Catholics – who are similarly split between official and underground churches – Muslims and Buddhists have also faced increasing pressure to toe the party line.

Earlier this month, Jet Airways Chairman Naresh Goyal said that more than 50 of its aircraft were not operating. Following the resignation of Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel, The Columbus Dispatch reported that quarterback Terrelle Pryor — already facing a five-game suspension — is being investigated by the NCAA for receiving discounts on cars and other improper benefits. The report said the NCAA and OSU’s compliance department are conducting a separate investigation of Pryor involving allegations that he received discounts on cars and questioning his relationship with Ted Sarniak, a 67-year-old business man from Pryor’s hometown of Jeanette, Pa., who has been described as Pryor’s mentor. Pryor has been connected with more than six vehicles since he arrived at OSU in 2008, according to the report. Pryor has been stopped three times while driving cars owned by car salesman Aaron Kniffin or a Columbus used-car dealership where Kniffin worked. Kniffin told The Dispatch that he allowed Pryor to drive a car to Jeanette to show his mother. He said Pryor did not purchase the vehicle. OSU spokesman Jim Lynch said he could not comment on the investigation of Pryor. “The university continues to work with the NCAA as they investigate matters involving our football program, and we will continue to do so until the conclusion of the investigation,” Lynch said. “We are unable to comment on specific players’ situations because of federal law.” Pryor, along with teammates Dan Herron, DeVier Posey, Solomon Thomas and Mike Adams, was suspended for the first five games of the 2011–12 regular season for receiving improper benefits, but was allowed to participate in OSU’s 31-26 victory against Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl. It later was revealed that Tressel knew about the infractions and failed to report them. Tressel resigned Monday. A Sports Illustrated report published Monday night said Pryor personally brought in more than 20 items, including helmets, Nike cleats and game pants, to Fine Line Ink, a Columbus tattoo parlor. In 2008, Pryor was investigated for the ownership of a vehicle before he arrived on campus for his freshman year. He later won the starting quarterback job from senior quarterback Todd Boeckman, becoming the first true freshman quarterback to start at OSU since Art Schlichter in 1978. In 2009, Pryor raised eyebrows for his defense of Michael Vick after the NFL quarterback was accused of participating in illegal dog fighting rings. “I mean, everyone kills people, murders people, steals from you, steals from me, whatever,” Pryor said. “I think that people need a second chance, and I’ve always looked up to Mike Vick, and I always will.” Pryor won the Rose Bowl MVP in 2010 and passed for 266 yards and two touchdowns as the Buckeyes defeated Oregon, 26-17.

Troopers requested a medical flight from the Alaska Air National Guard, which deployed a Pave Hawk helicopter and a fixed wing aircraft from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson to the avalanche site, located about 9 miles (14 kilometers) southwest of the city of Whittier. It wasn’t immediately clear if each person had their own snowmobile or if people had doubled up to ride near the glacier. Alaska State Troopers identified the victim of the Wednesday afternoon accident as Chad Christman. He was part of a group of people riding snowmobiles near Blackstone Glacier, about 60 miles (96 kilometers) southeast of Anchorage, Lt. Col. Candis Olmstead with the Alaska National Guard said in an email. The avalanche caught six of the snowmobilers. “Five were OK, but one person had to be dug out,” she wrote. Two witnesses on snowmobiles reported to troopers that they saw Christman buried by the avalanche. “When they arrived at Blackstone Glacier, at 4,800-foot (1,463-meter) elevation, a landing area for the helicopter had been stamped into the snow by the snowmachine group,” Olmstead wrote. Snowmachines are what Alaskans call snowmobiles. “When the avalanche stopped, Christman was only partially buried,” troopers said in a web posting. “The two men and other people in the area were able to dig Christman out. CPR was started.” Facebook0TwitterEmailPrintFriendly分享ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A 41-year-old Anchorage man driving a snowmobile in Alaska’s backcountry died after being partially buried by an avalanche, officials said Thursday. Christman was transported to an Anchorage hospital but didn’t survive, troopers said. It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the avalanche or how big it was. A message sent to the Chugach National Forest Avalanche Information Center wasn’t immediately returned Thursday.

This version goes back 10 years to the historic time when the game took its first baby steps.Featuring a wholesome 32 blocks (most of which are dyed wool) to unleash that creative force inside players, the devs urge fans to “play the original and wonder how it ever got so popular”. This web version is set by default to Creative mode because that is the only mode available. This means no Zombies or Creepers or those weird Ender-things. ‘The Perfect Marionette’ has been created on Minecraft by Uchio TokuraimgurThis sure brings back a wave of nostalgia for someone who played and left the game before the bountiful updates came in. It takes players back to a simpler time when there was no complex crafting system, no villagers to trade/trap and no little piggies to poke. Just a tiny, randomly generated map with a single biome and a whole lot of ocean to surround it.There is a “bonus gift” for players who will return to the site tomorrow. A message at the bottom of the landing page contains a message for visitors: “Want to enjoy three spectacular anniversary sales and a free bonus gift? The company’s net losses for the quarter were $325.15 million, which translated to a net loss of $0.25 per share. Last year around, Snap’s losses came in at $0.36 per share.Analysts had expected revenue of $283 million, and losses of $0.27 per share. These results mirror last quarter’s numbers, when the company disclosed that it had lost 3 million daily active users, while at the same time posting better-than-expected revenue and earnings numbers.Snap CEO Evan Spiegel blamed the user decline on problems with Snapchat’s Android app, something that the company has frequently pointed to as one of its pain points in the past. Snap is already testing a rebuilt Android app in a couple of markets, but Spiegel said Thursday that the company wasn’t ready to be released widely. “We still have a bunch of work to do there,” he said. The same seems to be true for one of Snap’s other goal: becoming a profitable company. Neither Spiegel nor CFO Tim Stone wanted to commit to reaching profitability in 2019, something that Spiegel laid out as a goal in a recently leaked email to employees. “Internal goals are just that,” Stone said. “They are internal goals.”This also sums up pretty well why investors are a lot more forgiving to Twitter than to Snapchat. Twitter has become a profitable company, raking in $0.21 per share in Q3. Snap, on the other, hand is still in growth mode, spending heavily to build out its products and attract new users, to the tune of $1.3 billion for research and development during the first 9 months of this year. Thus far, it looks like those investments don’t pay off.Spiegel, nonetheless, ended his prepared remarks on Thursday’s earnings call with a positive outlook for 2019:“We are in this for the long term and we are just getting started. We offer a uniquely different user experience and we are excited about the many opportunities we have to drive growth.”Other notable tidbits from the earnings report:This past quarter, 21 unique shows on Snapchat Discover reached a monthly active audience of over 10 million viewers.NBCUniversal extended its content-production commitments through 2019; Viacom committed to creating 10 new Snap Original Shows as well as syndicating at least 500 episodes of its networks’ shows on Snapchat.Snapchat users have saved more than 200 billion Snaps to date.Over 60% of Snapchat’s daily active users create Snaps every day.Snapchat’s Tic-Tac-Toe AR game attracted over 80 million unique users in Q3.Countries outside of North America now represent 30 percent of Snap’s total revenue. Snapchat corporate parent Snap seems to be following Twitter’s example: The company continues to bleed users, but it is getting a lot better at monetizing its existing user base.During its most recent quarter, Snap lost 2 million daily active users compared with the previous quarter, the company disclosed as part of its Q3 earnings report Thursday. However, it handily beat analyst expectations on revenue and earnings, approaching $300 million in revenue for the quarter.Investors responded by sending Snap’s stock up sharply in after-hours trading, only to send it back into negative territory soon after, with share prices down more than 10% in after-hours trading. That’s in contrast to Twitter, whose stock price was up more than 15% Thursday after reporting a similar combination of declining user numbers and better-than-expected earnings earlier in the day.
