Lewis Hamilton not surprised by Nico Rosberg retirement

first_imgLewis Hamilton will miss Nico Rosberg next season but he was also one of the few people unsurprised on Friday by his Mercedes team mate’s decision to retire only days after winning the Formula One championship.”This is the first time he’s won (a title) in 18 years, hence why it was not a surprise that he decided to stop,” the triple world champion told reporters ahead of the governing FIA’s gala prize-giving in Vienna.”He’s also got a family to focus on, and wants more children, and Formula One takes so much of your time. Will I miss the rivalry? Of course.” (Lewis Hamilton one of the best, but no friend: Nico Rosberg)Rosberg, the 31-year-old son of 1982 champion Keke, won the championship in Abu Dhabi on Sunday and said he decided on Monday that he would go out on top and enjoy time with his wife and baby daughter.”I’ve achieved this childhood dream now and I am not willing to do that sort of commitment again for another year. And I am not interested in coming fourth or whatever. I am a fighter and I want to win,” said the German.”So, not interested to do that again, don’t want to do it again, and so I have decided to follow my heart and my heart has told me to stop there, call it a day and go on to other things.” (F1 bosses vote Lewis Hamilton best driver, Nico Rosberg third)”It feels wonderful and it feels right,” added Rosberg. “My wife Vivian is also very excited. She’ll have her husband back and I’ll be a dad again … which is going to be wonderful.”advertisementHamilton and Rosberg have been friends and rivals since their teenage days in karting, with the Briton beating him to the Formula One championship in 2014 and 2015.Each has a benchmark for the other throughout their careers, the man they measure themselves against, and Hamilton recognised he would miss the German. (Nico Rosberg deserved his title, says Lewis Hamilton)”We started out when we were 13 and we’d always talked about being champions,” he said. “When I joined this team, Nico was there, which was again something we talked about when we were kids.””It’s going to be very, very strange and it will be sad not to have him in the team next year. The sport will miss him and I wish him all the best.” (Nico Rosberg shakes off Lewis Hamilton’s shadow)”Of course it is a shame that he won’t allow me to take it (the title) back or fight to take it back but that is his choice and I respect his decision: go out on top while you can.”Hamilton said he did not care who Mercedes chose as his team mate, providing they had equal terms.”It doesn’t matter who…I’ll race them, I’m here to race,” he said.last_img read more

BAHAMAS Strong Women Strong Families Strong Communities

first_img Related Items: Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApp#Bahamas, December 8, 2017 – Nassau – The Department of Gender and Family Affairs, Ministry of Social Services and Urban Development hosted several activities to commemorate ‘National Women’s Week 2017’ being observed in The Bahamas November 26 through December 9.   The activities reflect the progress of Bahamian women, celebrate their accomplishments and address social issues impacting them. The week incorporates the annual observance of National Women’s Day, November 26, with recognition of the 25th anniversary of that day.    This year in The Bahamas, the observance has been extended an additional week.   The theme for the week is “Strong Women.  Strong Families.  Strong Communities.”Among the activities were an awareness raising/report sharing session on The Bahamas’ Sixth Periodic Report to Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), November 28, and a special school assembly at Doris Johnson High School, November 29.Panelists in the CEDAW discussion were Ambassador Rhoda Jackson, Acting Permanent Secretary, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Marion Bethel, The Bahamas’ candidate for (CEDAW); Donna Nicolls, Bahamas Crisis Centre; and Deandra Cartwright, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event was attended by the Director of Gender and Family Affairs, Gaynel Curry; government officials, representatives of non-governmental organizations including Zonta Club of The Bahamas.CEDAW is an international treaty adopted in 1979 by the United Nations General Assembly.   Described as an international bill of rights for women, it was instituted on September 3, 1981 and has been ratified by 189 states. In her remarks, Ms. Jackson said CEDAW is much more than a legal document to be discussed by policy makers and lawyers.    S he said it represents a commitment by a Government to its people, which seeks full respect for the rights and dignity of women in the country, and is therefore an instrument that belongs to the people it is intended to protect. As The Bahamas celebrates the advances to protect women’s rights in the past two decades, Ms. Jackson urged those present to remember the shortcomings that still exist and give those areas priority.“One of the most notable inadequacies is the need for additional changes to The Bahamas’ Constitution relative to gender equality.   This is paramount to fulfilling the Convention’s mandate to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women.   As long as gender disparities exist, The Bahamas would not have lived up to the mandate the country pledged to uphold, when we signed onto CEDAW.“I am, therefore, pleased by the presence of representatives from civil society and public sector organizations here today.   Public fora of this nature should be at the helm of the engagement process.  The government should strive to continue ongoing dialogue and collaboration with national and international women’s organizations, schools, churches and religious groups, also, devising a plan for expansion of the role of the two latter groups.   Educational campaigns that generate awareness of women’s issues and also the Convention will form an integral part of combating the ills that affect women, particularly since educational campaigns in schools will target both girls and boys, who are armed with useful instructions which become extremely meaningful as they become women and men,” she said.In her overview, Ms. Marion Bethel urged civil society groups to hold the government accountable for the advancement of the optional protocol tool of the CEDAW Convention, which allows improvements in human rights.Shonel Ferguson, MP for Fox Hill, addressed the special assembly at Doris Johnson Senior High. S  he told the students that they can determine the path that they want their lives to take.  She reminded them that they are created to succeed, designed to win and equipped to overcome.  The assembly was attended by IDB representatives, Mrs. Patricia Minnis, wife of Prime Minister Hubert Minnis; senators and education officials. ES File Explorer vanishes from Play Store while QuickPic returns

first_img Here’s What You Should Know Before Dipping Your Toes In The Online Dating Pool Close Earlier this week, Google suspended the Chinese developer – Do Global, which was reported to committing the Ad click fraud by automatically clicking on ads on behalf of users, according to BuzzFeed News. The Search giant removed nearly 50 apps of the developer, which were registered under Do Global and under some other generic names like “Pic Tools Group” and “Photo Artist Studio”. Now, renowned file managing app – ES File Explorer – seems to face the wrath of Google. The search giant has unlisted the ES File Explorer from the Play Store.ES File Explorer is a well-known and longest running file manager, though its popularity has declined as it passed from one developer to another. Recently, it is uploaded under the name of ‘ES Global’ on the Play Store, though the app is actually owned by ‘Du Global’. As LinkedIn confirms, Du is a subdivision of DO Global, which is caught in the Ad click fraud scandal.A few years back, ES File Explorer was listed among the best file manager apps for Android. But since it sold to the third party and stayed in news for bad causes – unwanted charging screen, an unwavering stream of ads, and an unsettling vulnerability allowing others to steal your files by being on the same network – many users switched to alternative apps like Solid Explorer or Files by Google. ES File Explorer removed from Play StoreES File ExplorerDO Global had round 100 apps on the Play Store and had a total of 600 million installs. Last year, in a similar course of action, 8 apps from Cheetah Mobile and its subsidiary Kika were removed by Google due to similar ad fraud. Google asked the developer to resubmit its apps with an improved version.QuickPic, one of these notorious apps owned by Cheetah Mobile, has now been listed on Play Store again. In a statement, the company said to Android Police that QuickPic was not removed due to click fraud. Same way, Google can ask DU Global to resubmit its apps and ES File Explorer might return with changes in future. Until then, if you are using ES File Explorer, then you should uninstall it and should wait for an improved version or use an alternate app. Google Play Protect system now scans over 50 billion apps on users’ devices each day to make sure apps installed on the device aren’t behaving in harmful waysGoogle Blog (screen-shot)Moreover, Do Global has also released its official statement regarding the recent scandal. The company has claimed to do an internal investigation and has apologized for irregularities in some of their products.center_img IBTimes VideoRelated VideosMore videos Play VideoPauseMute0:01/2:09Loaded: 0%0:01Progress: 0%Stream TypeLIVE-2:08?Playback Rate1xChaptersChaptersDescriptionsdescriptions off, selectedSubtitlessubtitles settings, opens subtitles settings dialogsubtitles off, selectedAudio Trackdefault, selectedFullscreenThis is a modal window.Beginning of dialog window.
