TCI Closer to Blood Donation Law PAHO urging the Policy

Christie admits to not wanting to pay Police Overtime

first_img Recommended for you Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApp Related Items:#magneticmedianews, #Nottage, #PerryChristie, #PoliceOvertime Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppBahamas, July 4th 2017 – Nassau – Former Prime Minister Perry Christie has revealed that he was at odds with the late Dr. Bernard Nottage, former Minister of National Security over the issue of overpay owed to police officers.According to Christie, Nottage believed that police officers chose to not support the PLP during the elections, because the government lacked to pay them their overtime owed. Christie also admitted that when the Supreme Court Justice Milton Evan ruled the government either pay the outstanding overtime or give officers the equivalent in time off back in 2015, Nottage had to fight him to have the officers paid. Christie was leaning towards the idea of time off for the officers but Nottage fought back saying no.Christie also revealed that Dr. Nottage had planned to announce the overtime to finally be paid to officers at the PLP rally at R.M Baily Park in April, however he fell sick while on stage.Christie also said that Nottage was always very supportive of the force and fought hard for the compensation they have now received. BAHAMAS Strong Women Strong Families Strong Communities

S  he told the students that they can determine the path that they want their lives to take.  She reminded them that they are created to succeed, designed to win and equipped to overcome.  The assembly was attended by IDB representatives, Mrs. Patricia Minnis, wife of Prime Minister Hubert Minnis; senators and education officials. first_img Dan Cohen AUTHOR Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.) underlined the need to improve military readiness, address the threat of climate change and eliminate waste at the Pentagon, after the House Democratic Conference elected him on Friday to become chairman of the Armed Services Committee. “As chairman, I will work with my colleagues to promote transparency and congressional oversight, enhance military readiness, combat inefficiency and waste at DOD, advance green technology in defense and address the threat climate change poses to our national security, fight for an inclusive military and move towards a responsible approach to nuclear weapons,” Smith said in a written statement. He was widely expected to be named chairman of House Armed Services after serving as the committee’s ranking member.Smith also said he would address the military’s unrealistic set of requirements driving demands for a massive defense budget for fiscal 2020, reported Stars and Stripes.Separately, Smith slammed President Trump’s statement that he is considering declaring a national emergency to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. “Diverting money from these military construction accounts could have substantial impacts for service members at installations across the country and on defense projects that are important in supporting readiness, training, operations, and quality of life for military personnel and their families,” Smith said in a written statement.DOD photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Daniel Hintonlast_img read more

Volkswagen ID R is ready for its Nürburgring lap record attempt

first_imgVolkswagen on Wednesday revealed the latest iteration of its ID R all-electric racing car, which on Thursday will begin testing towards the company’s goal of setting a new lap record at the Nürburgring. The eventual goal is to beat the existing electric-car ‘Ring record of 6 minutes, 45.9 seconds, which was set by the Nio EP9 in 2017.The Volkswagen ID R already has some pretty serious lap times under its belt, having set a new Pikes Pike International Hill Climb record and an electric-car record at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. With Germany’s famed Nürburgring not only the international benchmark against which all modern cars are tested, as well as being in VW’s homeland, it’s no surprise the company has its eyes set on trouncing Nio’s Green Hell lap time. As at Pikes Peak, the ID R will be driven by racing driver Romain Dumas.Enlarge ImageA new wing, new brakes and other technical changes prepare the ID R for the Green Hell. Volkswagen The ID R has been modified significantly for use at the Nürburgring, starting with new electronics for charging and discharging the twin lithium-ion battery packs on the track. Whereas at Pikes Peak the ID R was able to extract about 20 percent of the power it needed through regenerative braking, at the Nordschleife VW said it predicts that figure will only be about 10 percent. The car’s aerodynamic elements have also been redesigned, with a new front spoiler and fully enclosed underbody designed for higher speeds. The new rear wing reduces the ID R’s total height by 8.7 inches compared to prior versions. Overall, the car has 33 percent less aerodynamic drag than the Pikes Peak version, yet VW still claims total downforce is “roughly twice as much” downforce as a Formula 1 car. A drag reduction system can temporarily lower drag by 20 percent.Volkswagen I.D. REnlarge ImageThe ID R as it appeared at Pikes Peak. Volkswagen Other changes include the installation of carbon-fiber brake discs, which VW says are not only lighter than the car’s prior ceramic discs but also lighter. All told, the ID R weighs “less than” 2,425 pounds, including the driver. As when it campaigned at Pikes Peak, the ID R will have plenty of power at its disposal. Its twin electric motors produce 670 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, directed to the road through Bridgestone Potenza race tires. VW claims the car will accelerate to 62 mph in just 2.25 seconds, with top speed estimated at 168 mph. Even more incredible is that around the ‘Ring, VW expects an average speed of more than 112 mph. 0 Tags The record-breaking Volkswagen I.D. However, veteran royal reporter Jennie Bond revealed that William actually did not want to wear his military uniform for his wedding day.Ms Bond, who was royal correspondent for the BBC for 14 years from 1989 to 2003, spoke to podcast “Pod Save the Queen.” Prince Harry (L), arrives with his best man Prince William, Duke of Cambridge (R) for the wedding ceremony of Prince Harry and US actress Meghan Markle at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018 in Windsor, England.Getty ImagesShe said in a podcast that aired in March 2018: “It is a tradition – obviously the Duke of Edinburgh married in his naval uniform and Prince Charles in his, the first time around anyway.”And William in his, [although] I don’t think William really wanted to wear a military uniform.”Ms Bond explained: “I think a note came down from on high that it was required, and that’s what he did wear.”Reportedly many expected him to choose a Royal Air Force uniform for his big day, as he served with the RAF from 2009 to 2013 but apparently on the day, Prince William wore his scarlet Army uniform as Colonel of the Irish Guards.Well we have to say that wearing a military uniform for a wedding is not much of a sacrifice for a Prince to make.last_img read more

Anger makes a good business as more people queue up to smash

first_imgAnger room screenshotEntrepreneurs looking for a startup idea? I’m Jack’s Wasted Life.via GIPHY Yes, I’m talking about Anger Rooms/Rage Rooms! Welcome to this new quirky business that requires modest investments and ensures a unique nihilistic form of customer satisfaction. As more people are beginning to sense the business opportunity, such rooms have sprung up in various locations such as Dallas, North Carolina, Houston, Toronto, Niagara Falls, Australia, Buenos Aires, Serbia and even Japan.Prominent names include the Anger Room, Rage Room, The Break Room, Smash Shack, the Break Club and The Venting Place.via GIPHYDepending upon requests, the experience can be tailor-made to suit your requirements, albeit at an increased price. For more money, customers can smash stuff for more time and with customised rooms, they can also decide what they even have more choice with what they want to break into a million little pieces. But the use of firearms and sharp weapons are strictly forbidden. One of the most expensive setups so far has been a faux retail store, stocked with racks of clothing. The idea is also a hit for couple dating. Engaging in mindless destructive nihilism with a stranger is obviously the sure shot way to begin a long lasting and formidable relationship.via GIPHYInterestingly, this business was also thriving during the American elections, as people began to queue to vent out their frustrations on mannequins designed to look like the candidates.”We’ve gone through at least three of the male mannequins that we have to dress up as Donald Trump,” Donna Alexander, founder of the Anger Room, an operation expanding and looking into opening franchise stores, was quoted saying to the New York Times.via GIPHYLocated in a 1,000-square-foot space in downtown Dallas, the Anger Room’s revenue in its first year was $170,000. Since then, Alexander has received more than 2,500 enquiries from other aspiring anger-room entrepreneurs, and she is in the process of drafting a licensing agreement for franchisees.via GIPHYStart-up costs for such a business are relatively small and include procuring the necessary materials (protective gear, items to smash and weapons to smash them with), and finding a suitable location. You have to hire employees to build the rooms (with reinforced walls), filling them with the breakables, and to regularly clean up the post-wreckage. Items to smash are also found on regular trash pick-ups for free. But obtaining insurance is a bit of a hurdle. The fact that it’s a new concept, Alexander says her insurer “literally had to create a category for my business.”It’s not too ludicrous to imagine such as a business opening in India, just like Vardhaman Jain asked Anger Room in December 27, 2015. They are even considering it.  1/3 Off duty San Diego sheriffs officers and employees (L-R) Rachel Klindt ,Ben Klindt, Lisa Williams Rachel Klindt Jill Farris (C) and William Stearmer and Dody Patterson put on their safety gear before they head into a “break room” at Sarah’s Smash Shack for an evening session in San Diego, California September 29, 2008. He is feeling the thrill of working on a period film and though the film isn’t a classic period film, the fact that it’s set in the 90s requires major prep from him, a challenge he has taken up well enough. From understanding the social scenario of the era to its very politics, the actor has undergone a makeover after a few rounds of changes. To be era authentic, Vijay has even grown a moustache. Depending on his character requirement and background, Vijay decided to have a cleaner look. Vijay went through a series of look tests, exchanged notes with the director on how to add to his look. The actor says, “We arrived at the final look after many trials. We wanted to get the milieu right and took references from many real-life personal pictures from the late 80s which the team had gathered for mood boarding.””Sheetal Sharma is the designer on this film and we worked closely over many trials to get the vibe of Loha Singh right. Power and leadership are his main trials and we made sure it reflects in the styling. The script has a lot of answers in explaining the political scenarios of the 1990 and what was the general sense of response by these characters to the times they were living in. Discussions and looking up on history helped in making it more nuanced instead of settling for a uni-dimensional approach to the period,” Varma added.last_img read more

N Zealand expels US diplomat

first_imgA US diplomat has been expelled from New Zealand after Washington refused to waive diplomatic immunity so police investigating a serious crime could question him, officials said.Details of the alleged crime have not been revealed but local media reported the diplomat left the South Pacific nation last week suffering a broken nose and black eye.Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully said he was “disappointed” at the US refusal to waive immunity and in response asked for the person’s withdrawal from New Zealand.”Officials in Wellington and our ambassador in Washington DC have clearly conveyed to the United States the expectation that foreign diplomats obey the law in New Zealand and are seen to face justice in New Zealand,” he said in a statement released to AFP Monday.Police said they were called to an incident in Lower Hutt, on Wellington’s outskirts, in the early hours of March 12, which “involved an individual from the US embassy in Wellington”.By the time they arrived the person had left the scene and no arrests were made.Attempts to further investigate hit a diplomatic brick wall.McCully said foreign affairs officials relayed a police request to waive immunity but their US counterparts refused.Local media named the diplomat as Colin White and said he left Wellington with his wife and children.TVNZ, which broke the story, reported that White was a technical attaché who had been working closely with New Zealand’s intelligence service, the GCSB.A spokeswoman for the US embassy said they were “communicating with New Zealand authorities” on the issue.”As a matter of policy, we do not comment on the specifics of matters under investigation,” she said in a statement.”We take seriously any suggestion that our staff have fallen short of the high standards of conduct expected of US government personnel.”McCully said the US had stated it always fully investigated all allegations involving its diplomatic staff.Diplomatic immunity, formalised in the 1961 Vienna Convention, means foreign envoys are protected from local law enforcement in the country to which they are posted. The most recent known case of it being invoked in New Zealand was in 2014, when Malaysian military attaché Mohammed Rizalman bin Ismail was accused of indecent assault. It was eventually revoked and Rizalman was sentenced to nine months’ home detention after being found guilty in a Wellington court.last_img read more
