Pollard’s Adelaide Strikers continue poor form

first_imgHOBART, Australia, (CMC): Kieron Pollard and Chris Jordan both failed as Adelaide Strikers slumped to their third loss of the Big Bash League with an eight-wicket defeat to Hobart Hurricanes yesterday. Sent in at Bellerive Oval, Strikers were dismissed for 143 off their 20 overs and Hurricanes wasted little time in overhauling the target with 14 deliveries remaining in the innings. The result left Strikers one from bottom of the eight-team standings on two points from their lone win in four outings. Only reigning champions Sydney Thunder – who boasts West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell in their ranks – have a worse record, as they are winless in four games. Yesterday, captain Brad Hodge top-scored with 55 from 45 deliveries to give Strikers a lift while opener Ben Dunk hit 31. Pollard, batting at number six, scored a run-a-ball 11 to continue his struggles in the competition. He has managed a mere 45 runs from four innings. He was fifth out in the 18th over, bowled by left-arm spinner Clive Rose after missing a big off-side shot. Jordan, the Barbados-born England-all-rounder, lasted two balls for his one before holing out to long on off England teammate Stuart Broad. In reply, Hurricanes were propelled by opener D’Arcy Short’s 60 off 39 balls and captain Tim Paine’s 41. The pair put on 105 for the first wicket which put the result beyond doubt. Jordan’s three overs leaked 30 runs while Pollard’s solitary over cost seven runs.last_img read more

QPR boss Redknapp admits his shock at Remy’s failed Liverpool move

first_imgQPR manager Harry Redknapp admits he was shocked to hear Loic Remy had failed a medical at Liverppol – and claims there must be another reason for the transfer to break down. The France striker was set to complete a switch to Anfield over the weekend but the Reds called the deal off due to what are believed to be concerns over the Rs striker’s health. Loic Remy and Harry Redknapp “I don’t really see how he could have failed a medical,” Redknapp said. “He had a stringent medical here – one at Marseilles, at Newcastle and with the French team at the World Cup.“He’s never had a problem with his fitness – you couldn’t meet a fitter lad.“I’ve seen the story break but I don’t know how there can be an issue with his fitness – he’s got no problems whatsoever.”Remy spent last season on loan at Newcastle where he scored 14 goals for the Magpies in the Premier League. The striker was out for almost a month with a calf problem towards the end of the campaign but Redknapp believes there must be another reason for Liverpool pulling the plug.“There must have been a breakdown or they’ve changed their mind or they’ve decided to move in another direction,” Redknapp said.“It’s not fair on him because it’s my opinion and the opinion of everybody else – he’s never had a problem before.”Remy has also attracted interest from Tottenham and Arsenal in the past but Redknapp would be delighted if the striker remained at Loftus Road.“From our point of view we’ve got a fantastic striker – one of the best strikers in the Premier League in my opinion,” Redknapp said.“Liverpool’s loss is our gain. When he went to Newcastle last year I said he was capable of 20 goals in the Premier League so that’s what we need him to do.“I’m disappointed for the boy that his move didn’t happen but from a selfish point of view, I’ve got a great striker back here now.“If he’s here, we’ll be delighted to have him – he’s a good lad, a good player and a good professional.” 1 The 27-year-old encountered problems when he moved from Nice to Marseilles in 2010. The medical discovered a heart defect but further tests convinced Marseilles to complete the transfer.last_img read more

Was the Hack into Google an Inside Job? The Rumor Mill Keeps Churning

Today, Reuters reports that, in addition to looking at the Chinese government, Google is looking at the possibility that help came from within its own ranks in the recent hacking successes.According to Reuters, some employees in Google’s China offices have either been denied access to parts of the company’s internal network, transferred to other locations or put on leave. Google, however, remains tight-lipped, saying that it will not comment on “rumor and speculation”. The company also denies reports that the company shut down its offices in China last week.It seems lately that much of the news about Google’s security situation in China consists of little more than rumor and speculation. Immediately after Google’s threat to include previously censored results in China, reports started coming in that the search engine had begun showing results that the Chinese government would consider sensitive. Google, however, remained firm on the fact that search results on Google.cn remained censored. According to one source in China that we contacted on Friday, search results for such hot-button terms as “Falungong”, “Taiwan Independence” and “Tibet” included a number of previously censored sites, when searching in English. Today, however, searches for “Falungong” and “Dalai Lama” in both Chinese and English carried a disclaimer saying that according to Chinese laws, some results were not being shown. This news comes alongside reports from the New York Times that “at least two foreign journalists living in Beijing have had their Google e-mail accounts hacked”. The hacked accounts, in much the same manner as other accounts, were forwarded to other accounts, where outside parties presumably intercepted the emails. As for the accusations that these security breaches could have come from within Google itself, there is one notable difference – the company is not denying the claim outright, as it has with other “rumors and speculations”.center_img Tags:#news#web Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… mike melansonlast_img read more

Happy Lewis Hamilton savours “rawest fight” in Spain

first_imgA drained but happy Lewis Hamilton hailed an “awesome” Sebastian Vettel on Sunday after winning a Spanish Grand Prix that the Briton described as the “rawest” of fights. The two rivals, with seven world championships between them, were in a race of their own at the Circuit de Catalunya as they lapped all but Red Bull’s third placed Australian Daniel Ricciardo.Banging wheels, the one almost forcing the other off the road and getting hot under the collar as they fought for the lead, the Mercedes and Ferrari rivals produced a memorable thriller.”That’s how racing should be and I loved it and I wouldn’t change it for the world,” gushed triple champion Hamilton after chalking up the 55th win of his career to cut Vettel’s championship lead to six points.”I probably lost two kilos just in that race,” added the Mercedes driver, who revealed he had no water bottle in his car in order to save weight.”It’s draining, the car is fast, to keep up with him… he drove fantastically well and it’s a real privilege to race against such an awesome driver.”Hamilton had secured pole position on Saturday but wheel spin left him playing catch up as Vettel seized the lead from the start. What followed was a strategic tussle, with different tyre strategies that resulted in Hamilton entering his final stint on the quicker soft tyres and Vettel, still leading, on the harder mediums. The two went side by side as Vettel came out of the pits for the last time, the German holding off the Briton with a bit of strong-arm tactics.advertisement”I was more than half way alongside and he pushed me wide,” complained Hamilton over the radio at the time, before taking the lead seven laps later with Vettel muttering that he had “no chance” of holding him off.”I think it was the rawest fight I can remember having for some real time, which I loved,” said Hamilton.”This is what the sport needs to be every single race for sure. This is why I race and this is what got me into racing in the beginning. To have that close battle with him, with a four-time champ, is awesome.”Spain followed on from a difficult Russian weekend for Hamilton, the Briton finishing fourth in an overheating car.He might have been hot on Sunday, but the Mercedes was not the problem.”From turn one to the end it was flat chat (full speed),” he said. “You’re just using everything you’ve got… to stay on (keep up with) Sebastian was a killer.”last_img read more
