Union Ministers Arjun Ram Meghwal and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore are among the 134 candidates whose fate will be decided in the 12 Lok Sabha constituencies in Rajasthan that go to the polls on Monday. Polling on 13 of the 25 seats in the State took place on April 29, while Bikaner, Nagaur, Dausa, Alwar and Jaipur Rural are some of the keenly watched constituencies in the fifth phase of polling. The resurgent Congress, after its victory in the 2018 State Assembly election, is giving a tough fight to the BJP, which has skirted local issues and highlighted terrorism and defence preparedness as the subjects of national significance in its campaign. The candidates and leaders of both the parties came out in full strength on the last day of campaigning on Saturday and conducted roadshows and rallies in various towns. Two former Olympians — Col. Rathore (BJP) and Krishna Poonia (Congress) — are locked in a keen contest in Jaipur Rural, while Mr. Meghwal is facing rebellion by the BJP workers in Bikaner after the exit of veteran leader Devi Singh Bhati from the party. Mr. Meghwal and his cousin Madan Gopal, as the Congress candidate, are the two former civil servants in the fray in Rajasthan.Battle royale Two seers — Sumedhanand Saraswati and Mahant Balak Nath — are contesting the election on BJP tickets from Sikar and Alwar, respectively, while the only erstwhile royal family’s scion in the fray is Bhanwar Jitendra Singh from Alwar. Jaipur royal family’s Diya Kumari contested the polls from Rajsamand in the fourth phase. Both the Congress and the BJP candidates in Dausa, reserved for the Scheduled Tribes, are women. While the Congress gave the ticket to Savita Meena in its first list released on March 28, the delay in the announcement of former MP Jaskaur Meena’s name as the BJP candidate exposed the fight between factions led by local leaders Kirori Lal Meena and Om Prakash Hudla.Centre of attraction The Nagaur seat is going to be a centre of attraction for political analysts and psephologists, as the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party president Hanuman Beniwal is in the fray as part of an alliance of BJP with his party. Mr. Beniwal, who had quit the BJP and was elected an Independent MLA from Khinvsar, faces Jyoti Mirdha of Congress, who comes from the influential family of Jat leader Nathuram Mirdha — elected an MP for six times since 1971.About 2.30 crore voters, including 1.09 crore women, will exercise their franchise in 12 constituencies. The seats going to polls are Sriganganagar, Bikaner, Sikar, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Jaipur, Jaipur Rural, Alwar, Bharatpur, Karauli-Dholpur, Dausa and Nagaur.
Even as polling for the last phase of Lok Sabha elections was under way in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district on Sunday, a man was brutally murdered, in full public glare, allegedly by his neighbours following a heated exchange over some issue. The incident occurred at Sarli Kalan village under the Khadoor Sahib Parliamentary constituency when the victim, Bunty Singh (30) was returning home after exercising his franchise, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kuldip Singh Chahal said. He, however, clarified that the incident was not related to the polling. “This murder is not related to the ongoing polls and is not an incident of poll violence,” he told the reporters in Tarn Taran. The murder was a result of “some sudden provocation” and the accused, who were the victim’s neighbours and whose exact number is being verified, were under the influence of alcohol, Mr. Chahal added. They allegedly attacked Singh on his neck with a sharp-edged weapon, killing him on the spot, he said. A manhunt has been launched to nab the accused, the SSP said. Woman dies in Madhya Pradesh A woman on Sunday died of cardiac arrest while standing in a queue at a polling booth in Chandora village, part of the Ratlam-Jhabua Lok Sabha seat, a poll officer said.“A woman voter identified as Genda Bai (58) died after suffering a heart attack when she was waiting in the queue at Chandora village booth under Ratlam-Jhabua Lok Sabha constituency,” said VL Kantha Rao, Chief Electoral Officer of Madhya Pradesh. Earlier, two government employees engaged in the election duty also died in separate incidents in Madhya Pradesh.“Garu Singh Chogad, who was deployed at the Jalwat polling booth in Dhar Lok Sabha constituency, died after suffering a heart failure on Sunday morning,” Rao said. In another incident, a presiding officer, Anil Nema, in Dewas Lok Sabha seat died of cardiac arrest on Saturday night, he said. Polling was under way in Dewas, Ujjain, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Dhar, Indore, Khargone and Khandwa, with voter turnout recorded at 59.38% till 4 p.m.

Former England batsman Geoffrey Boycott feels cricket-playing countries should combine to outvote BCCI’s opposition to the Decision Review System in the ICC even though most of them are “frightened to death of India’s financial power”.Former England batsman Sir Geoffrey Boycott.”If a majority of the ICC countries believe that the DRS is a good improvement for international cricket, they should vote for it and say, ‘Sorry India, you are in a minority.’ It’s supposed to be a democracy around the world, where the majority takes precedence,” Boycott told a website.”But there is fear to offend, and some countries are totally afraid to offend India. The sooner they get around to it and say, ‘No. Since a majority of us believe it is good, we’re going to do it,’ the better. Simple as that. India won’t like it, but you can’t be run by one country,” he added.India has vehemently opposed the DRS, saying it does not trust the technology to be foolproof, blocking its usage in the upcoming tour of England most recently.Boycott said it is just the fear of BCCI’s money might that is preventing other boards from speaking up in favour of DRS.”Many countries that play cricket are frightened to death of India’s financial power. You’ve got to understand that before you get to voting on anything at the ICC,” he said.”When you play international cricket, every country has its own television rights with its home broadcaster. When India come, you’ve got a number of TV stations queuing up in India to get the rights to beam the coverage in India and they pay a lot of money for that. Other countries don’t have the same financial buying power.advertisement”So nobody wants to offend India. Nobody wants to create a situation where they say, ‘We’re not going to tour.’ I’m not saying India say that, and I’m not saying India are putting the pressure on and blackmailing; they don’t. But, underneath, these countries are frightened to speak up,” Boycott explained.Boycott said argument that resentment to BCCI’s influence in the ICC stems from other countries’ discomfort with shifting of the balance of power towards Asia, does not hold much ground.”If you believe it was wrong earlier… and there are some people like my friend Sunil Gavaskar. He says that England and Australia ran the Imperial Cricket Conference, when it was called that, and he’s right. They used to have two votes each, the other countries had one. That wasn’t fair and it wasn’t right. Now everybody has one vote,” he said.”If it wasn’t right back then, two wrongs don’t make a right. It’s about time the other countries stood up and said, ‘We’re going to have the DRS because it’s made more accurate decisions for cricket and it’s all players ever want,'” he reasoned.- With inputs from PTIFor more news on India, click here. For more news on Business, click here. For more news on Movies, click here. For more news on Sports, click here.

West Indies rode on excellent half centuries by Roston Chase and skipper Jason Holder to recover from a middle order collapse and post a healthy 295/7 against India at stumps on the opening day of the second cricket Test at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday.Chase (98 not out) and tailender Devendra Bishoo (2 not out) were at the crease when the umpires dislodged the bails for the day.Resuming the final session at 197/6, Chase and Holder (52) stretched their seventh wicket partnership further to 104 runs before the skipper finally fell to pacer Umesh Yadav, caught behind by keeper Rishabh Pant. Not being able to dismiss the middle and lower-order was a problem in England and it once again turned out to be the bowling unit’s bane as the Chase-Holder duo added 104 runs for the seventh wicket.Nonetheless, Umesh Yadav (3/83 in 23 overs) bowled his heart out on a good batting track while left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav (3/74 in 26 overs) was also impressive during the first two sessions.Debutant pacer Shardul Thakur left the field complaining of groin strain after bowling merely 10 deliveries and the Indian attack was reduced to four men.It seemed good enough till tea time but the lack of a fifth bowler did have its effect in the final session as the two senior spinners Ravichandran Ashwin (1/49 in 24.2 overs) and Ravindra Jadeja (0/69 in 20 overs) lacked a Plan B to dismiss a set Chase. That Jadeja didn’t even have a Plan A was evident as he bowled flat out but wasn’t even restrictive like Ashwin.advertisementIndia vs West Indies 2nd Test Live Streaming: How to watch IND vs WI Live Streaming on Hotstar, JioTV and AirtelIndia vs West Indies 2nd Test live streaming from Hyderabad: Watch IND vs WI 2nd Test match free live streaming online: Watch IND vs WI Final Live on Hotstar, JioTV and Airtel TV.What time does the 2nd Test between India vs West Indies start?Day 2 of the first Test starts on 9:30 AM IST on October 13, Saturday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. What TV channel and live stream is the 2nd Test between India and West Indies Live Streaming on?Star Sports 1 and Star Sports 1 HD in English commentary and Star Sports 3 and Star Sports 3 HD in Hindi Commentary. The centres will alleviate the need for parents to take their children to Kingston for assessment. Minister of Education, Hon. Rev. Ronald Thwaites, says work will begin next month on the establishment of three diagnostic and care centres to cater to students with special education needs in rural Jamaica.“Construction is starting in December at Sam Sharpe (Teachers’ College in St. James) for the construction of the centre there and we have existing space at Church Teachers’ College (in Manchester) and we expect to have space also at CASE (College of Agriculture, Science and Education in Portland) and so we are now sourcing equipment for all three centres,” he said. The Minister was speaking to journalists on November 7 at the 8th staging of the Caribbean Child Research Conference at the Jamaica Conference Centre, downtown Kingston. The centres will alleviate the need for parents to take their children to Kingston for assessment at the Mico Child Assessment and Research in Education Centre (CARE), which is currently the only such facility in the island.“We are using the kind of enablement that MICO Care has had as a template for the other centres; and so we hope that by the end of the first quarter in 2014, they will be up and running,” he said. The facilities are estimated to cost the Government some $40 million.Rev. Thwaites said the Ministry will be partnering with universities to ensure the centres will be appropriately staffed with professionals in the area of special education.“We are going to be asking the universities to assist us with people in particular skills areas that we need – speech therapy, guidance counselling (etcetera), and schools should be able to send children, who they can’t handle to these institutions for diagnosis and for therapy,” he stated. He noted that the Ministry will be increasing the training of teachers and principals in the schools so that they can recognise the children, who have particular challenges. The Education Minister said there are also plans to source additional funding for the establishment of a similar centre in Old Harbour to serve the regions of Clarendon and St. Catherine.Rev. Thwaites stated that the move to establish the facilities is in keeping with Government’s plans to revitalise and transform the education system with special emphasis on early childhood and special education. He informed that approximately 20 per cent of children in the education system can be categorized as special needs cases. The two-day Caribbean Child Research Conference, which is being held under theme: ‘Beyond 2015: Safeguarding Our Children’s Future’, aims to examine the progress made since 2000, when many nations committed to eight millennium development goals (MDGs).It is being staged by the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES), in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), Early Childhood Commission (ECC), Office of the Children’s Advocate, Caribbean Child Development Centre, Office of the Children’s Registry, and Child Development Agency, among others. The facilities are estimated to cost the Government some $40 million. Nadarajah Mathinthiran alias Parithi, an ex-LTTE commander who had left the movement in the early 90’s and later coordinated Tamil organisational political activities in France since 2003, was killed last evening outside the office of the Tamil Coordinating Committee (TCC) in Paris, the Tamil Nwt website quoted news sources in France as saying. The website meanwhile said that people close to the 49-year-old organiser, who was also known as Reagon, blamed the Sri Lankan military establishment for the assassination. “This seems to be a psyop assassination by the Sri Lankan state targeting the political mobilisation of the Tamil diaspora,” Mr Pradeep, an independent political activist based in Paris told TamilNet. The French Police is investigating the killing. Mathinthiran was shot at least three times when he was leaving the office of the TCC around 9:00 p.m. at Pyranees in Paris 20. Two weeks ago, the French legal proceedings sanctioned him a 10 months probation period that would have put him under close monitoring with restricted movement, including electronic monitoring. Reagon took part in the early operations of the LTTE against the Sri Lankan military in Mannaar, Jaffna and Vanni. He was a middle-level commander when he left the LTTE in the early 90’s.In 2003, when the Tiger leadership was engaged in transforming its diaspora network from its earlier structure, Mathinthiran, now named as Parithi was appointed as the coordinator of political and fund-raising activities in France. When the French authorities went on a crackdown of LTTE fundraising activities, Mathinthiran alias Parithi was held under arrest from 2007 to 2010 and was subjected to legal proceedings. He was released in 2010 under several conditions of monitoring by the French. The assassination has come at a time when Tamil groups in Paris were shedding away their internal differences of opinion, diaspora Tamil activists said, passing the entire blame of the assassination on the Sri Lankan military establishment.Mathinthiran was given with the nom de guerre Reagon when he joined the LTTE in 1983. He received his military training in the 2nd batch of the LTTE’s training programme provided by India. Some of his batch mates in the training camp in India were Kumarappa, Bhanu, Ranjan Lala and Vasu, the Tamil Net website said.

Anyone who owns or has used an e-reader like the Amazon Kindle will know how clear and readable text can be on such a display. Images come out looking quite crisp, even if they are devoid of color. And yet those 6-inch displays only have a resolution of 600 x 800 at 167dpi.Epson is working to develop a much higher resolution display using the same e-reader technology from E Ink. The new screen will be 9.68-inches and will sport a resolution of 2400 x 1650 at 300dpi.AdChoices广告While the current e-reader screens may be perfect for reading text, they can’t produce the detail required for industries that use engineering plans and technical diagrams. There’s also benefits of a higher resolution display for rendering Asian character sets, and illustrations. So it’s not just industry, but educational institutions that could benefit from such a display.Wanting to offer the benefits of e-paper, but also requiring that higher resolution for the detail, has led Epson to E Ink’s door ready to create the required new display. While E Ink brings the display technology to the table, Epson has a key element in the form of a high-speed display controller platform allowing not only for fast page renders, but also for handling large files that come hand-in-hand with more detailed documents. Together the meeting of technology from these two firms should mean the highest resolution e-paper yet seen on the market, and hopefully in many new consumer e-readers too.Read more at the Epson press release, via V3Matthew’s OpinionAdding the higher resolution to the display does allow e-readers to do more. High resolution diagrams are one thing, but illustrations as part of the text are a big part of school books, and on the consumer side it means the potential for graphic novels to be offered in a more detailed form, among other things. Before owning a Kindle I thought a 6-inch display would be way too small, but for reading books it isn’t. However, the move to 10-inches coupled with a higher resolution, and hopefully color, makes a lot of sense. iPad has shown that 10-inch is a size that works, and if an e-reader can achieve it while remaining as thin as a Kindle it could be very popular.

‘Game of Thrones’ Targaryen Prequel Series Is Reportedly Coming to HBO‘Game of Thrones’ Star Kit Harington Joins Marvel’s &#… When it comes to pirating television shows, people know what they like and want to see. That’s why it probably comes as no surprise that once again, HBO has declared Game of Thrones the most pirated show of the year. The results come from a report compiled by TorrentFreak, which names Game of Thrones as the most downloaded bit of media on BitTorrent for the fifth year running. I guess it’s safe to say people love Game of Thrones and really hate paying for HBO like everyone else.According to TorrentFreak, the number of downloads was pretty close to 2015’s numbers, with about 350,000 “actively sharing” an episode across multiple torrents. That’s a lot of people. But how many were seeding and how many were leeching? Important points to consider. People hate to seed. Especially when it’s something really hard to find. But I digress. The rest of the list was filled with mediocre shows like The Flash, Arrow, the always-terrible The Big Bang Theory, and more. Unsurprisingly, however, was The Walking Dead at number two and Westworld at number three, shows that people can never stop talking about. It seems everyone is getting their hands on the shows, so the conversation will certainly continue. Lucifer, Suits, and The Grand Tour rounded out the bottom of the list. You might remember reports of Amazon’s The Grand Tour being the most illegally downloaded show of all time. This new info basically refutes that.So what have we learned? People want to get their entertainment cheaply, or at least some of them, and Game of Thrones is still as popular as ever. Maybe with the popularity still at an all-time high, next season can really step it up since it’s been on a downward spiral ever since it started veering away so radically from the books. We’ll just have to wait and see. Stay on target
WEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – The final step in the pursuit of a degree for some Florida International University graduate students is getting all shook up this weekend. There is no final exam for the first graduating class of FIU’s Academy for International Disaster Preparedness. In what constitutes a first for the academic institution, the 39 students are participating in a full-scale, 48-hour disaster drill simulating a catastrophic earthquake. In the drill, the group is divided in teams that will have to build a base of operations and conduct field assessments.FIU officials praised the participants’ dedication. “These students are the best and so unique. They really come from our community,” said Ruben Almaguer, FIU’s Assistant Vice President for Disaster Management and Emergency Operations. “They’re firefighters, they’re law enforcement officers, they’re in the military, the U.S. Coast Guard. We have a doctor, we have a lawyer, we have other civilians who want to get into this field.”Saturday afternoon, students worked directly with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue’s Air Rescue and Marine Divisions and the U.S. Coast Guard. They will be transported aboard a Coast Guard vessel and a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue fire boat. They will also assist in aerial damage assessment using a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue helicopter to evaluate a simulated disaster site across Biscayne Bay.Copyright 2019 Sunbeam Television Corp. Oil prices jumped the most in a month, rising more than 4 percent on Thursday, after comments from the Saudi oil minister about possible action to stabilize prices triggered a round of buying and the International Energy Agency forecast crude markets would tighten in the second half of 2016.Saudi Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih said OPEC members and non-members would discuss the market situation, including any action that may be required to stabilize prices, during an informal meeting on Sept. 26-28 in Algeria. The comments by the minister of the world’s top oil exporter triggered fund buying and some short covering, giving a boost to prices, traders and brokers said. Many traders remain skeptical of the outcome of the meeting, expecting a repeat of the Doha meeting in April when talks fell through after Saudi Arabia backed out, citing Iran’s refusal to join in a so-called production freeze. The IEA, which advises large developed economies on energy policy, forecast a healthy draw in global oil stocks in the next few months that would help ease a glut that has persisted since 2014 on the back of rising OPEC and non-OPEC supply.”The markets clearly are deriving support from both the IEA report and statements from the Saudi oil minister,” said Andrew Lebow, senior partner at Commodity Research Group in Darien, Connecticut.”In a crude market that has seen a combined increase of 200,000 gross short speculative positions over just the past six weeks, any talk of a potential coordinated effort from producers, no matter how unlikely the prospect, will lead to short covering.”Both benchmarks notched their biggest daily percentage gain in a month. U.S. crude CLc1 settled at $43.49 per barrel, up $1.78 or 4.3 percent, while Brent crude LCOc1 closed $1.99 or 4.5 percent higher at $46.04, after both jumped more than 5 percent during the session. Many analysts say they see oil prices trading within a range for the next few weeks, but if Saudi Arabia talks up the market, the potential for a significant drop in prices are high.”The Saudis benefit from talking this market up … they buy a little time and give the market a chance to acquire better balance,” said Jim Ritterbusch, president of Chicago-based energy advisory Ritterbusch & Associates.”If at the end of the day the Saudis don’t go along with an agreement to cut production, the market will go right down, just like last time.”U.S. refined products futures, including gasoline RBc1 and diesel HOc1, jumped after Motiva Enterprises LLC’s [MOTIV.UL] 235,000 barrel per day Convent, Louisiana, refinery was evacuated due to a fire at a hydrocracker around midday on Thursday.Ultra-low sulfur diesel futures soared 5 percent to a session high of $1.3934 a gallon, their highest since July 21 after the news.Diesel crack spreads 1HOc1-Clc1, a key measure of margins for refiners, jumped as much as 7.7 percent to a high of $14.72 during the session.
